I started making my own homemade barbecue sauce when I ran out of store bought. Once I developed this recipe, we use this one now and love it! It is made of ingredients that I always have in the cupboard and has become a favorite for us. This recipe is really super simple and only takes 15 minutes. I often have this barbecue sauce made up in the refrigerator to eat on burgers, wraps, sandwiches or whatever else we want to have a sweet and smoky barbecue flavor.
Ingredients
- Ketchup:This is the base and so much cheaper than store bought barbecue sauces.
- Brown Sugar:For the caramelly sweetness in the sauce.
- Liquid Smoke: This is a must to give the sauce that smoky hickory flavor. Can be found in the barbecue sauce aisle of most grocery stores.
- White Vinegar:
- Onion Powder:
- Garlic Powder:
- Ground Mustard:

- Just mix all of the ingredients in a small saucepan and simmer for about 15 minutes.
