History of Apple Pie

Even though apple pie is considered an All-American dessert and an unofficial symbol of the U.S. it did not originate in America! Apple pie actually originated in England. As a matter of fact, apples did not even grow in America until Europeans brought over apple seeds and tree cuttings. By the year 1800, there were 14,000 apple varieties in America! Johnny Appleseed was truly instrumental in apples becoming prolific in the U.S. For more fascinating history about apple pie, read: History of Apple Pie-The longstanding, adopted American symbol.
