A quick and easy side-dish to serve with any meat. This simple recipe for Deluxe and Creamy Hashbrown Casserole is made with frozen hashbrowns as the base. Then, chopped onion adds flavor and moisture. For the creamy aspect, I use sour cream, cheese and cream of mushroom soup. Melted butter adds extra richness!
History Of Deluxe and Creamy Hashbrown Casserole
This recipe was given to me years ago by a friend. I use it when I’m in a pinch for time. I also choose this recipe when I want potatoes to go with a meal and don’t happen to have any at the time. Deluxe and Creamy Hashbrown Casserole makes a great side dish to go with almost any kind of meat. I love the aspect that you can make it up ahead and freeze it or store it in the refrigerator until you want to cook it. If you want, this recipe can also be served with breakfast or lunch. You can add ham, bacon, or sausage for the breakfast casserole. For a lunch casserole you can add your choice of sausage, ham or bacon and serve it with a fresh salad.
Ingredients
- Hashbrowns: Thaw before starting your recipe for easier mixing.
- Cream of Mushroom Soup: For flavor and creaminess.
- Sour Cream: This makes your casserole rich and creamy.
- Butter: Even richer…
- Onion:For flavor and moisture in the casserole.
- Cheddar Cheese: I like Sharp Cheddar for this casserole but whichever kind of cheese you prefer is fine.
With only 6 ingredients, this recipe takes only 10 minutes to assemble. It is one of those “make, stick in the oven, then do something else” kinds of recipes. The fact that you can make this delicious Deluxe and Creamy Hashbrown Casserole ahead of time makes it great for serving to company.
For example:
After assembling this casserole, I made Parmesan and Garlic Shake n Bake Chicken. While these two menu items were cooking, I tidied the kitchen, folded some laundry, and watered some plants. Then, I made the broccoli and Easy Cheesy Sauce for Broccoli. This was all done during the cooking time of the Chicken and Casserole!
This casserole is also great as part of a big hearty breakfast. It goes well with a salad for lunch, pancakes for breakfast or meat for supper. Or, there are hundreds of other combinations for meal ideas with this Deluxe and Creamy Hashbrown Casserole.

Bacon is a very delicious add in.
